1-Butene gas (also known as n-butene) is an organic compound with the structural formula CH3CH2CH=CH2. It is a highly flammable, compressible gas. 1-Butene is poorly soluble in water, but easily soluble in organic solvents such as alcohol and ether.
1-Butene gas reaction
1-Butene gas is stable when stored alone, but it can spontaneously polymerize under appropriate conditions. The main use of 1-butene is as a comonomer in the production of polyethylene to adjust the mechanical properties of the polymer, such as the production of linear low-density polyethylene. It is also a raw material for the production of butylene oxide and butanone.
Production
1-Butene gas is obtained by separating the C4 component of petroleum catalytic cracking, or by dimerization of ethylene. The product is purified by distillation.
