Nonene, with the chemical formula C9H18, is a general term for a series of monoolefins with a carbon chain length of 9 and a carbon-carbon double bond. It usually appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a typical petroleum hydrocarbon odor. Due to the presence of double bonds in its molecular structure, it is easily oxidized in the air, so antioxidants are usually added to improve its stability. It has a wide boiling point range, approximately between 145°C and 165°C, and a low density of approximately 0.73 g/cm³.
Uses
Nonene can be used as a raw material for organic synthesis and is used to manufacture lubricant additives, surfactants, fragrances, pesticides, and plastic products. They are also used in the petrochemical industry to produce more complex compounds and polymers. In addition, nonene can also be used to improve the combustion characteristics of fuels and improve the anti-knock performance of fuels.
