1-Decene is a colorless transparent liquid. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in solvents such as ethanol and ether. It is flammable and can burn under high temperature, open flame, and strong oxidants. The production of 1-decene mainly adopts two processes: polymerization and cracking. The polymerization method uses ethylene as raw material and carries out carbon chain growth reaction under the action of catalyst. The product quality is higher and it is the current mainstream preparation method.
1-Decene has a wide range of uses. It can be used as a raw material for the production of plasticizers, lubricants, fatty acids, flavors and fragrances, dyes, pharmaceuticals and other products, and as a polyethylene comonomer for the production of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Especially in the field of lubricants, 1-decene is a key raw material for polyalphaolefin base oil (PAO). As one of the common lubricant base oils, polyalphaolefin base oil can be used to manufacture high-end lubricants. PAO base oil often uses C8-C12 high-carbon α-olefins as raw materials, of which 1-decene accounts for more than 85%.
