Sulfur hexafluoride CAS 2551-62-4
1. Due to its high stability in water and air and its extremely low content in air, sulfur hexafluoride is used by scientists as a tracer to monitor the flow of seawater and the spread of air pollutants.
2. Sulfur hexafluoride has good insulation properties, so it is used as a dielectric and insulator in industry, especially in high-voltage circuits.
3. In the medical field, sulfur hexafluoride is used as an anesthetic. Some studies have shown that its anesthetic effect is better than nitric oxide.
4. The ability of sulfur hexafluoride gas to pass through rubber membranes is much lower than that of air, so it is used as a gas filler to fill tennis balls and insoles.
5. It is used as an arc extinguishing and large-capacity transformer insulation material in high-voltage switches. It can also be used in particle accelerators and lightning arresters. Taking advantage of its good chemical stability and non-corrosiveness to equipment, it can be used as a refrigerant in the refrigeration industry (operating temperature between -45 and 0°C). Due to its high ability to stop alpha particles, it is also used in radiochemistry. It also acts as an anti-adsorbent to displace oxygen from mine dust.
