High purity cyclopentane, also called pentamethylene, is a hydrocarbon used to replace Freon for refrigerator and freezer insulation materials and rigid PU foam foaming agents. It is used as a solvent for solution polymerization of polyisoprene rubber and cellulose ether. Isopentane is one of the components of petroleum ether. It is obtained by reorganizing isopentane under the action of platinum and has broad market prospects. High purity cyclopentane itself has high requirements for high purity industrial use, so it is of great significance to strengthen the research on high purity cyclopentane purification process technology.

Cyclopentane has a low thermal conductivity, good anti-aging performance, no damage to the ozone layer, and has many advantages in solubility in polyols. At present, cyclopentane production mainly relies on petrochemical raw materials, mainly petrochemical C5 fractions. Cyclopentane is a component of petroleum ether with a boiling point range of 30-60℃, and its content is generally 5%-10%. It is distilled at atmospheric pressure with a reflux ratio of 60:1 in an 8m high tower. Isopentane and n-pentane are first distilled out, and then fractionation is continued to obtain cyclopentane with a purity of more than 98%. Cyclopentane can also be obtained by reduction of cyclopentanone or catalytic hydrogenation of cyclopentadiene.

Cyclopentane foaming agent has a self-ignition temperature of about 380℃. Spontaneous combustion will not occur at a normal temperature of 50℃. Harmful effects of cyclopentane Inhalation of high concentrations of cyclopentane can cause central nervous system depression, although its acute toxicity is low. Symptoms caused by acute exposure are excitement first, followed by imbalance, and even stupor and coma. Death from respiratory failure is rare. It has been reported that oral administration of this product to animals caused severe diarrhea, leading to collapse of heart, lung and liver blood vessels and brain degeneration.

Cyclopentane and Freon are both substances that are easy to liquefy and vaporize. They absorb heat when vaporizing and release heat when liquefying. Liquid cyclopentane flows in the pipe. When it flows into the freezer, it vaporizes and absorbs heat, absorbing the heat in the refrigerator and lowering the temperature inside the refrigerator. When it flows into the condenser, it is compressed and liquefied, releasing the absorbed heat and achieving the purpose of refrigeration.
